Here’s the truth: I actually love DIY — and most of the time, things do turn out the way I hoped. It just usually takes longer than I planned, involves at least one trip back to the hardware store, and leaves me covered in paint, sawdust, or both.
I’ve learned most of what I know the hard way: sanding down mistakes, re-cutting boards that “should have fit,” and discovering that prep work really is half the job. The process isn’t glamorous, but it’s taught me skills I never thought I’d have and given me the kind of confidence you only earn by figuring things out as you go.
DIY for me isn’t about perfection — it’s about creating a home that feels lived-in, loved, and a little more ours with every project. Messy hands, happy heart.
